The Culinary Union has negotiated favorable contracts for disability, life, critical illness, and accident coverage for you.

Life Insurance

All eligible members and their spouses through the age of 72 may apply for insurance coverage. Coverage is also available for dependent children up to age 25.

Once you have the policy, coverage remains in force as long as premiums are paid. Your premium cannot be increased.

Guarantee issue is available for newly eligible members that are actively at work, even if you have a medical condition. No health questions asked.

Best of all, coverage is immediate!

Disability Insurance

What if an off-the-job injury or illness prevented you from working? How would you pay your bills?

Short-Term Disability (Plan A)

You may purchase up to 70% of your monthly compensation (including the loss of time from the Culinary Health Fund) for a period up to 3 MONTHS, beginning on the 15th day of your total disability.

Long-Term Disability (Plan B)

You may purchase up to 60% of your monthly compensation  for a period up to 12 MONTHS, beginning on the 91st day of your total disability.

Enroll soon. Coverage will begin 3 months after enrollment. A Pre-Ex clause does apply.

Critical Illness Benefit

This plan pays you directly upon diagnosis for any covered condition, including

  • Cancer
  • Stroke
  • Heart attack
  • Major organ transplant
  • Renal failure

You can choose from $5,000 to $50,000 in benefits that will be paid upon diagnosis. You can get a 50% of your benefit for your spouse. Dependent children up to age 26 get 25% of your benefit free.

The plan includes a $50 preventative wellness benefit once a year, regardless of whether you file a claim.

It goes into effect 30 days after enrollment.

Accident Plan

“Protection for the unexpected.”

This plan covers any accident, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on or off the job. You can cover spouses and dependent children. This plan pays you directly regardless of your medical benefits paid by the Health Fund. Coverage begins at midnight on the day you sign up!

Coverage applies even if you’re in a different country. 

The plan also offers a $50 wellness benefit annually, regardless of whether you file a claim.
